What Is It? Shorts or a Skirt...?

Polka Dot Suspender Shorts: Thrifted.
Hot Pink Tank: Target.
Big Double Pearl Necklace: Thrifted.
Black Patent Heels: Thrifted.
Black Bow Headband: Claire's.
Clip On "Diamond" Earrings: Thrifted.
About two weeks ago I thirfted this...oh I don't know what you would exactly call it. Polka dot shorts that look like a skirt attached to suspenders piece? It's going to be fun wearing this back to school because all of our skirts and dresses must touch our knees. I'm crossing my fingers that the administration says something to me about my skirt not touching my knees when I wear this because then I get to say, " they're actually shorts!" Ha! I've found a way to cheat the system :)
I remember my freshmen year of high school (which was not too long ago) there was this senior girl who I admired so much for her style. She actually went on to study fashion design at college, but that's just a little side note. Anyways, I always was so envious of the way she dressed, and one of the most memorable outfits I remember her wearing was a skirt with suspenders attached. If I remember right the skirt was polka dot, too! I was so jealous of her and vowed to myself that I would get a skirt with suspenders attached someday. I searched and searched all my freshmen year and sophomore year, and finally this summer my long journey is complete! I'm so happy I found my suspender skirt! :D

Tomorrow Matt and I are going on a little date: Hooray! Now, you must not judge me on what I'm about to say. Promise me you won't think of me as just another hopeless teenager girl? Okay, good. Well, tomorrow Matt and I are going to see Eclipse, the third Twilight movie! Now, let me explain myself. I am not one of those crazily obsessed teenage girls who are in love with Edward and think he's actually real. I did read the books, yes. Once. And before they were even popular! I and actually Matt really enjoying going to see the movies the books are made into. Yes, my boyfriend likes the Twilight movies! (although he refuses to read the books, but I don't blame him. That would ruin his manly-ness....) I'm very excited because Matt and I don't get to do anything really different or special with each other too often. Of course, I'm dressing up for he occassion and I'll make sure to post pictures of my outfit!
Oh, and Friday Matt and I are going somewhere even MORE exciting than the movie theater. It will be a secret for now... ;)
P.S. I had to post the last picture of my cat. We're re-doing our floor and my dad tore up the old carpet and put it in the garage. My cat, Rascal, has the right idea about summer!

The Fruit Hat.

White Peasant Dress: Kohl's.
Wide Black Belt: Kohl's.
Gold Key Necklace: Came with a book.
Tan Flats: Thrifted.
Straw Fruit Hat: Thrifted.

It's actually been quite awhile since I thrifted this fruit hat: I can't believe I'm just now taking pictures with it!
I'd like to just thank you all so very much for you comments on my last post regarding the mean comment that was posted on my blog last night. You have no idea how much better your kind words made me feel! I'm so glad I :) Thanks so much guys! (I or should I say gals...)
I don't really have too much to say about today other than I went to Barnes and Noble and spent the gift certificates that I've had for two years! It was only ten dollars, so instead of buying a book, I bought a fashion magazine. Ha! I bought an InStyle mag which are always fun to read and get my creative juices flowing to get me in the mood to try something different. Oh, and I still had five dollars left so I went to the cafe and bought a Reese Cup cookie and also and double chocolate chunk brownie! Ugh... both were mouthwateringly delicious. Oh, and I did share both. I'm not a total hog...
Well everyone, I'm off to read my magazine, put together an outfit for a date night on Thursday with Matt( more info on that soon!), and also to keep plugging away at my summer English assignment. Jeez, my teachers are relentless even in the summer.
Have a good rest of the day everyone :)

I Guess It Happens To Everyone...

I'll be the first to admit that I am a highly emotional person. Sometimes I get worked up, upset, or overact to some situations. Just right now I feel so terribly low because I got a mean comment last night on this blog. Whether or not the person was trying purposely to be mean (which they said they were not) it still deeply hurt me.

An anonymous user commented on one of my posts that it is annoying how I post "10 million pictures of the same outfits." I just... don't know what to say. I never thought that a mean comment would happen on my blog, but I guess it happens to everyone?

I am such a baby for crying but I feel so...wounded. This blog is a way for me to outwardly express my feelings and my inspiration. All my life I have had people telling me how to do every step of my life and this blog is the one thing that I have all for myself. However I want to do it. For someone to say a mean comment about what I'm doing just makes me angry but sad at the same time.

I do not take and post all of the pictures of myself because I am highly narcissistic or I love to boast about myself. I am so inspired by all that is around me and by the clothes that I wear. I've recently realized how passionate about this blog, vintage fashion ,and photography I am. Being so passionate I tend to get a little carried away with the picture taking because I'm just so darn excited about what I'm doing. I get an amazing high off of all of this. It's what I truly love. I wake up in the morning thinking about it, and I go to bed dreaming about the next thing I will do.

I will not apologize for the way I run this blog. It is mine and I will do whatever I want and please to do with it. I would like to say to the person who wrote the comment if they are reading now that if you do not like how I run my blog, then please leave. My blog is a positive place where I can express and be myself freely, something that is hard to do in real life. If you don't like the way this blog is, don't read or look at it. Thank you so very much.

After Every Storm There's Always A Rainbow...

Khaki Roll Up High waisted Shorts: Thrifted.
Black and Lace Shirt: Forever21.
Black Silk Box Headband: Kohl's.
Black Patent Heels: Thrifted.
Pearl Necklace: Kohl's.

Yesterday evening there was a huge thunderstorm, so severe that it even knocked our power out for a few seconds! After the storm was finished though, there was a beautiful rainbow. I don't think I've ever seen a rainbow that big either! It seemed to stretch across the whole sky...

Today I got the scores back for my ACT that I took a few weeks ago and I'm not going to lie: I was disappointed. It was just my first time taking it, and it I didn't do bad neccisarily. A score of 23, but I was still hoping to do better. I guess I've always just been too much of a perfectionist and expect too much out of myself. For goodness sakes, I didn't do any prep work or anything! I just went in there with a pencil and my mind and winged it. Still, it's not like the ACT can be brushed off as just another school test that doesn't really matter. This depends on whether I get into a good college, and the higher the score, the higher my scholarships. (hyperventilates) I think I just need to chill out though (continues blowing into a brown paper bag...) It's the middle of summer. School isn't until the end of August. Relax Lauren!

On a lighter note, I went to my favorite thirft store with my grandmother the other day a picked up a few goodies. Imagine that ;) I got the wonderful shorts and little black shoes in the above pictures! Now, you all know that I'm a dress girl ,but I do really like these shorts. I like how they fit high on my waist, and I also like the cuffs at the hem of the shorts. It adds a little interest. Shorts allow me to show off my legs, too. My favorite body part! I'm always weary to wear a really short dress or skirt because I feel sort of scandalous... with shorts, however, I feel slightly more covered up and get to show off my best asset. The little black heels are something I've actually been needing for awhile. All of my black shoes are super tall heels that just about kill me to walk around in, so I was in dire need of some smaller black heels. These are perfect. Also, when I was thrifting I picked up a new pair of clip on earrings! ( I really should get my ears pierced...) This pair is unlike any other pair I have. Not gold, not silver, not pearl but...diamond! Fake of course, but that doesn't mean they aren't pretty. The earrings are very delicate and look great with pretty much anything. Can't wait to show you all.
Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying themselves. Oh, and thanks so much for the comments about your passions! I really loved reading them :D

Fanciful Floral Frock.

Strapless Navy Floral Dress: Forever21.
Navy Skinny Belt: Charlotte Russe.
Gold Heels: Thrifted.
Gold Beaded Necklace: Thrifted.

Try saying fanciful floral frock three times as fast as you can. Bet you can't do it! I know I sure can't... I was never good at tongue twisters anyways :P
I might possibly have the most kind and generous mother a girl could ever dream to have. If you haven't already guessed, my mother brought back this dress from Forever21 for me! She just keeps surprising me with these dresses at random times when I'm least expecting it... I truly can't thank her enough. I feel so very lucky to be able to have nice, new clothes where in some parts of the world people don't even have any clothes. I really am so thankful for everything I have.
Like the other two dresses (and every other new dress it seems) I believe I love this one! The floral pattern on it is just so beautiful. It reminds me of water colors. Also, you can't see it in the pictures, but the fabric is eyelet, which makes me only love it even more. Strapless dresses are so perfect and easy to wear in the summer, and they're probably my favorite style of dress to wear.
Oh, and when I looked at these pictures I got sort of excited because.... my hair is getting long again! Last year around this time I cut my hair into a very short bob and have been regretting it ever since. I like long hair. You can do all sorts of styles with it, and it's so romantic and feminine. Knowing how I work though ,soon I'm going to get tired of the hassle of having long hair and get the urge to cut it short. You all must help me resist my temptation!

Modern Vintage Bombshell: Scarlett Johansson.

Of course I look for vintage inspiration from classy, old Hollywood movie stars like Lauren Bacall, Rita Hayworth, and Grace Kelly. However, every once and a while I find deep inspiration in modern Hollywood stars who have a vintage style. Scarlett Johansson is the perfect example of a beautiful starlet with an impeccable taste for old things. Everything about her screams retro glamour: her clothes, her hair, her makeup. For goodness sake, even her name is retro sounding!

It seems like every outfit she wears is vintage perfection. The silhouettes of the dresses are just so stunning and flattering to her body, just like dresses in the 1940's used to be. She makes me want to have a curvaceous body so bad! (I curse myself for not having a voluptuous chest and a curvy bum with a tiny waist: the perfect hour glass shape so many women like myself covet!)

I love how her dresses accentuate her waist and look so feminine and refined. Perhaps that's what makes Scarlett look so beautiful in her clothes because they fit her to an absolute "T." Also, the necklines on many of the blouses and dresses are just too gorgeous for words. The bow that ties at the neckline is so classic vintage and something I wish I could really find for myself! Also, the deep V neckline is so sexy, but classy and sophisticated at the same time.

Oh, and not only is Scarlett's style the perfect mixture of a modern vintage bombshell, but she always has the hair, makeup, and accessories to complete the look! She just looks so stunning with red lips. Some people can carry off a strong red lip with confidence, and she definitely can! I can never stop looking at her retro style soft, curly waves either. I'm actually so obsessed with her hair that when I went to get my hair done for prom, bought in a picture of her hair for my stylist to copy off of! ( but we all know how well that turned out...ha) Scarlett's had every hair color ,too but how is it that she looks gorgeous in every color? No fair!

Hm... if I had to pick a favorite of Scarlett's outfits above I think it would be either the red dress with the sweetheart neckline, or the sexy lace dress in the first picture. It's so hard to choose because I love everything she wears! What's your favorite look of hers..?

Scarlett's style is just so hard to describe because it's such a mix of different styles! Retro, feminine, sexy, classic, sophisticated. I just feel so insanely jealous of Scarlett because she always looks stunning, but I look up to her so much for fashion inspiration. She is such a huge style icon for me and I hope that as my style grows and matures that I may have a style that resembles hers someday in the future...

This Isn't A Hobby: It's A Passion.

Floral Romantic Dress: Forever21.
Pearl Necklace: Kohl's.
Tan Flats: Thrifted.
Soft Pink Clip On Earrings: Thrifted.
Remember awhile back I did a little post called "I hate you Forever21?" Well,on the wish list I had this gorgeous floral dress that was my absolute favorite. It was romantic, vintage inspired, and so beautiful. I didn't have any money, so I knew I could never order the dress and it would have to just be another one of the pieces of clothing that I fantasize about but never own.
Last Friday my mother went on a shopping trip to Columbus, and she stopped in at the Forever21 there and got me the sailor dress as a surprise, as you all now. Well, two days after on that Sunday I went up to my room to put away some of my clothes, and I was shocked to see the beautiful dress from Forever21 that I had coveted so much on my bed! It was like I was in a bizarre dream of torture because I didn't believe that the dress was really there and was mine! It was mine though and my mom had been planning on saving it for my birthday, but she just couldn't wait! (thank goodness) It was odd too because she didn't even realize that the dress had been on my wish list! She had just picked it up knew it would be something I would love. Mom was sure spot on.

I love, love, love this dress! It's everything I would want. It makes me feel so much like Allie Hamilton from The Notebook, which is my biggest vintage inspiration. I wanted to do a really special photo shoot in the dress, so I went to a local natural preserve in my town called Gorman Nature Center.

Oh boy, was the place beautiful! I haven't been to the Gorman Nature Center since I was a little girl when our class took a field trip probably in third grade. I remember I absolutely hated the place. Bugs, dirt, snakes. Why did we have to take a field trip here again? Returning to the nature center years later, my feelings and thoughts were totally different.

It was like I had entered a heaven of eternal beauty all around me. I didn't even know where to start to take pictures at. There was inspiration every way I went. Romantic lakes. Dreamy fields. Mysterious forests. It was at this moment entering the Nature Center that I knew that blogging is more than just a silly little, time consuming hobby for me. This is my passion. This is what I love. Have you ever just been so excited about something that you just want to cry because it makes you so unbelievably happy? As I stood in the forrest I was suddenly overwhelmed with strong emotion. In the past I always felt so embarrassed when people would ask me what I liked to do, or what my hobby was. I never really had an answer for those people so I would just say, "uh... I play the trumpet." "I've been swimming since I was six..." Their hobbies would always be something cool like flying airplanes or going extreme hiking. Now I'm so very proud of my hobby. I never hesitate to tell people what I'm passionate about, even if most people don't even know what it is! I couldn't have thought I would ever find something I love so much, especially at such a young age. I'm fortunate I found what I love, and I'm looking forward to doing this the rest of my life!

Tell me, what are you're passionate about! It's so interesting hearing about people's passions beccause, well, they're so passionate! Tell me all about them! Every detail! I can't wait.
