January is my least favorite month of the year. It's a cold month, and I don't really mean physically. Emotionally January has always felt like ice to me. A barren month of tundra that seems to endlessly stretch on and leave me my thirst quenching for inspiration or happiness. It's not depression, but just a sadness January has. I've never had a good January and have never been able to see the beauty in the month like I do in the other months.

But today perhaps for one of the first times I saw a little glimpse of the glittering crystal of hope that January can be. January is silence. It's a cold, still silence that I find captivating. With it being MLK day today, there were no classes and the campus was barren. How can 27,000 people just disappear and make you feel like you're the only one on this acre after acre campus? I walked to go get coffee and was just in awe of the power that January holds. Mesmerizing beauty in nothing I guess. There's nothing beautiful about January. No flowers, no leaves, not even the shimmering delight of a freshly fallen snow that December holds. January is nothingness, but in that nothingness I found something today. The way the the snowflakes just seem to float down from the sky and although you're surrounded by so much...everything is silent and you can hear these tiny, little individuals falling from their home in the clouds onto the very ground my heavy feet walk upon. I did a 360 turn and just marveled because I really can't explain it, but I feel like I really saw January for the first time.

Although I can't wait for the lovely February to get here, I can let January stay a little bit longer after today, and even enjoy what it has to offer. A silence that maybe isn't so deafening after all

With much love, Lauren.

Well if there wasn't anything beautiful about January before, there sure is now :) Wow, so lovely! Glad that spirit settled on you today. I love having those appreciation/perspective moments.

Wonderful colors, gorgeous shots of those amazing legs in the cute socks and just so much beauty! Working up the nerve to email you and seeing you look so kind helps much :)

I thought I was the only one who had a cardie in radioactive red!!! Looks good teamed with teal!!!

January generally is grim because I'm usually ill (still am, sigh) but I've had 2 beautiful walks at the weekend which have been most beneficial! X
