1940's Fashion Tech Final Project!

Hello everyone!

Sorry I was fairly absent this weekend; it was little sibling weekend here at college and my sister came up to visit! I have more on that at a later time but I wanted to show you all my final project for my fashion technology class.

Fashion Tech class is learning all about Illustrator and Photoshop in regard to fashion. For our final project, we had to pick a trend for a coming season and design a mood board, color board, and two croquis/flat boards. It may not seem like a lot or very hard to do, but all of this took probably 12+ hours.

A croquis is the little model figure you see above. They're hand done in illustrator where I have to design the body, hair, face, and clothing by hand. Kind of like drawing but with a mouse on a computer! What's next to the croquis are what's called flats; or technical drawings of garments. These are what's sent to manufacturers when the clothing is put together. They have to be precise, showing all the seam lines, darting, pleats, ect. Flats and croquis are personally my least favorite thing to do and are more for designers, but nonetheless, it's important as a merchandiser to learn, as well.

The mood and color boards are what are presented to companies when you're promoting a new line or collection. They represent the mood and theme of what's to come. I love doing mood boards. They aren't necessarily about fashion, but more about the underlying theme and mood for the clothing. A trend coming up (which makes me so excited) is 1940's inspired clothing. I wanted to do a juxtaposition of the harsh war with the fight that women had during the 40's to still stay glamorous and fashionable. For my color board I chose five colors that will be used for the collection, and then came up with fitting names for them. Additionally, I had to make patterns and show what kind of fabric would be used.

Hopefully you all liked seeing a little peek of what I do in one of my fashion courses! I present this tomorrow and I'm super excited + proud of what I've done even though it might not look like a lot. Usually we get these printed and matted to hand in, but tomorrow is just a digital presentation. I think I might get some of these printed though just to hang in my room because I love them!
