I don't think I've ever really talked about why I don't wear pants on this blog. See, I didn't get into 'fashion' until I was around 14 years old and up until that point had never worn a dress outside of church. I wore jeans every day as my uniform. When I started to develop my personal style though, I thought the way to be fashionable was to wear dresses and skirts since in my 'unfashionable days' I had only wore pants. Seemed like the simplest solution to fix my dorkiness. I quickly found out that when I dressed up I received compliments, when I wore pants, I was just like everyone else. The young, insecure Lauren equated beauty with dresses, and therefore insecurity & ugliness with pants.
Every time I wore pants, I felt so inferior, so ugly. To me, dressing up was the element that helped people notice me since my face wasn't anything special (and to me at the time, it was just plain ugly). I used clothing as a means to boost my self esteem and the more dressed up I was, the better I felt about myself.
Five years later I still feel remnants of my prior thinking. I would be lying if I said I didn't. I feel insecure in pants because I've worn dresses so much that I've let them define me and define my style. In order to feel confident in a situation, it's not a pair of heels I must wear. It is a dress. It doesn't help that I am a short gal. Most people who meet me in real life are quite taken aback at how short I really am. For the longest time I despised my very short, stubby, bulky legs and wearing pants only accentuated all that I hated.
I feel like I'm getting a better grip on my self confidence and style though to start to venture out into the world of pants. I wore this outfit today and it wasn't as painful as I thought it would be. What I need to find is a unique way for me to wear pants so that they still feel as special as a dress. I get so worried of feeling like everyone else and losing my identity which is so silly. There is only one of every person on this earth.
But whether I'm me in pants or me in a dress; I'm Lauren just the same ♥
With much love, Lauren.

Ahh I used to feel the same way! I think that pants are so normal and commonly worn that they don't seem worthy of compliments, so they don't seem "stylish". But with the recent rise in printed and colored pants on sale and on trend, I think any outfit can be interesting.
That being said, you look lovely. I love the pastels :)

i did a same thing with you.. But style is not just about skirt or pants, is about yourself, and you much feel comfort and confident with what you wearing! :) i like the pants on you! you good! :)Irene Wibowo
No one could ever look as darling as you do my dear! You could wear a paper sack and still stand out because you'd wear it with t-straps and pearls no doubt :) Plus, these mint pants are a dream, and that collar? Ooo lala!!
You look adorable, and also, your face is so incredibly striking and beautiful!! I think that every time I visit your blog! I understand exactly what you mean though -- I rarely get compliments unless I'm wearing a dress (or feel especially special in an outfit). I think honestly it may come from how one FEELS in a dress, sometimes. When you feel special and beautiful and love an outfit, it radiates through you so that those around you can't help but notice! But regardless of what you wear, you are always gorgeous!
I am a dress/skirt girl as well. I feel boring and like everyone else when I wear pants as well! :) Love your true life confession, you are adorable!

Oh my Lauren! Often times I feel the same way about shorts and jeans. And this post helped me to see that, in some ways I am insecure about who I am and my body. Thanks for helping me to see thats something to work one :)
love the colors :)
You look stunning! Love the colours of it, you look beautiful with or without a dress.

I am just the same as you in that I don't feel dressed up or pretty in trousers and though I have very long legs, people don't tend to notice them in trousers! It's funny that on my blog posts, I get the most nice comments regarding my dresses and skirts, never the trouser posts!
I know how you feel, honestly. Although I have a thin frame I always thought that my thighs are the biggest part of my body and pants just show off that fact. you are beautiful as always Lauren and it's amazing that you are brave enough to reveal your insecurities to the world. I think it only helps other girls feel not so alone!

I can relate so much! I always used to wear jeans when I was younger and I can't stand the way they make me feel. I have a few pairs that I favor but I barely wear pants as well!
Gorgeous look, thanks for sharing (:

So nice to read this! I blogged not too long ago about how I finally decided to give up on jeans because I just hated the way I looked and felt in them. It's here, if you want to take a look: http://www.motuviget.com/2013/01/im-never-wearing-jeans-again.html
Recently discovered your blog and really like your style so far :)
LOVE what u wrote about identity, especially :) Not a frumpy look in the bunch with you! Besides which, you so often wear dresses that when you DO wear pants, it stands out & makes a statement!
I know you're still healing, so I say this carefully ... what always concerns me about when you write of your teen angst days of self-loathing is -- that was when u were in a serious relationship with 'him' ... and that concerns me... how much did he feed into that, I'm wondering ...
I don't have a magic wand and I actually wouldn't want one! but I do have prayer, and I'll continue to keep you in mine! (AND look for your posts to resume after computer repair!!!)
I also love dressing up in skirts and dresses. You always dress beautifully, and have a very unique style of your own that I always notice. However, saying that, I absolutely love this outfit with the pants! The colours are beautiful, and your legs don't stand out at all in these. The addition of heels is nice too and the colour combination is just what I love.
Keep at it Lauren,
Esther
