Goodbye, Rascal.

Tonight my sweet kitty, Rascal, passed away. He was my only and first pet I've ever had; we got him when I was just two years old. I remember even back to when I was a little girl and he was just a kitten how he would knock over lamps, claw furniture, and even climbed on an iron board once where it fell on him and he broke his leg. He was so rambunctious that we decided to name him a very fitting name, Rascal. Through the last eighteen years he's been alive he has been a best friend to me. Something to comfort me during my depression, a furry companion to bury my crying face into after my break up, the only 'boy' who wouldn't let me down. And now being away at college I loved him more than ever. He signified home and its comfort to me. A constant thing that would always be there, no matter how long I was gone my home always felt like home because he was there. Whenever I would first get home from college, he'd be the first thing I'd go see. He had a favorite spot on the couch he would always lay and I would snuggle him and give him kisses. He was one of my favorite and most dear parts of coming home.

When I came home this past weekend I knew something was wrong with him. Owners just have that sense. For some reason in my heart, I knew it would be the last time I would get to see him. When I left to go back to college yesterday, I sat with him on the couch and kissed his head, whispered in his ear for the last time and said,"I love you, Rascal."

My mom texted me that they were going to take him to the vet today because he still wasn't eating. This evening my mom told me the news I already knew in my heart; he was dying. His kidneys had already shut down and his liver was failing. He was suffering and in a lot of pain, and the most humane thing would be to put him to sleep. My dad held him in his arms and he peacefully passed away.

I will always love my cat and I am heartbroken. No words in this post will ever be able to express how I truly feel. I feel like I could never make you all understand how much I loved him through words. Although not human, this is the first 'death' I've ever directly experienced. Things will get better with time and I know that Rascal is in a better place now. Rest peacefully, my sweet kitty. I love you.

With much love, Lauren.

Your words are so gorgeous, very fitting from a gorgeous girl, i suppose, you've made me sob! It is so dagnamit hard to lose a family member, and that's exactly what our pets become. a couple years ago we had to have a dog put down, we'd had him for some 15 years and he'd become my best friend. I still weep about it to this day! I've lost both my dad and my granddad in teenage to adult years and no joke the loss-pain is just as hard... I can't say if losing a parent gets any easier (its been almost 8 years for me, and i still struggle every day not having papa around) but time does heal the pain. I promise. either way you do have to keep on keeping on, and your gorgeous smile will continue to light up the world! Xx

I'm so sorry, I'm sure that he lived very happy and that you and you family loved him so much. I also lost my first dog a few years ago and I still miss him so much, but I have a lot of happy memories with him and that's the important, i'm very thankful for that.
I send you a hug,
Laura.

I am truly sorry for your loss, Lauren. I can tell from these pictures and the things you wrote that Rascal was a wonderful pet and companion through the years. Please remember that he had a long, happy life as part of your family and he is in a better place now. I'm sure he's with my dog, Toto, who passed away a couple of months ago at the age of 14. Believe me, Lauren, I know how you feel and I share your pain.

I am so sorry to read this Lauren, I know how much our furry friends mean to us. Take comfort in knowing that Rascal will be causing as much chaos at Rainbow Bridge, much love to you and Rascal, I'm sorry this isn't as eloquent as your tribute but you are in my thoughts and prayers.

The love a pet has for his/her human owner is one not many people choose or get to experience. Rascal was so lucky to have your love and you were lucky to have experienced the love he gave you! Always keep him alive in your memory and with time you will get through this! sending prayers your way, Lauren!

Such beautiful pictures of your lovely Rascal. I'm sorry to hear of your loss. It must feel awful, especially as he was your first and special pet AND so old. I remember losing my cat Sophie. Though we had many cats over the years, she was the only one who was truly mine AND she knew it. Hugs to you lovely x

Aww, I'm so sorry to hear that your little kitty died :( I have a cat that I absolutely adore and even though she's with my parents since I'm in college, I would be crushed if she passed away. My heart goes out to you!

The darlingest cat I have ever known, who has been with my family for about 10 years, recently died. I feel your heartbreak.
