My Berets.

I was a freshman in high school when I bought my first beret. It was black Friday and my mom and I went out shopping early to Target and she told me to pick out a new winter hat. I looked around and spotted a little, black, wool beret on the cluttered shelf and knew it would be perfect to keep my head warm during the cold winter months when I did swim team. I wore that black beret every day from the start and everyone on the swim team referred to me as 'beret girl.' When I dyed entire hair hot pink that winter for a big meet, the complete inside of my black beret turned pink. I still have that black beret today; and it's still pink on the inside.

Since four years ago I've come full circle in my life and my berets have come with me. I've greatly expanded my collection of one to a collection of nine...tan, mustard ,pink ,red ,teal ,blue ,navy ,purple ,and black. It sounds so silly but my berets are a representation of who I am. Even though my style has grown and changed tremendously over the past four years (to the point where I can't even recognize some of my past outfits) my berets have also been in my style.  Always. I've never grown tired of them, never gone a week without wearing one at least once; through fall, winter, spring, and even the blazing days of summer. They are a part of me. A part of who I am.

It always makes me giddy when people refer to me on campus as the girl who wears berets. Who always wears hats....I think all of us need that one little kick in our style that we can call our own; that defines us. Without even trying, berets have become that to me. My head feels naked without one one and I don't ever feel like an outfit is ever complete without one perched on my head.

Find that thing you love and wear it with confidence, wear it with love. No matter what it is. It's a part of you, a part of who you are and you should never, ever give it up for anyone. ♥

With much love, Lauren.

I'd probably have to say that my object of affection is a waist cinching belt. I'm almost always wearing one.

Hi fellow beret girl! I was called "the little french" countless times in my life (as if a beret makes a french!) :D
I totally understand your obsession for hats and berets, I share your same feelings. Not to tell a beret makes any outfit instantly interesting AND vintage looking. What to ask for more to a little cloth of wool? <3

I always smile when I see you wearing a beret on your posts; they just look so perfect on you!

This is too cute!! I love the idea of having a defining factor in personal style, although I haven't found mine yet. Your beret collection is amazing, and they suit you very well :)

How funny, I've sometimes wanted to write and ask you to show us your collection of berets! They truly are a big part of your style and I am glad we finally got to see them all at once :)

I have a cream coloured beret, which despite not appearing in many outfit posts is actually my go-to item. If I think an outfit looks drab or my hair looks weird I put it on. I used to be called hat-girl by some because of this! I actually have five different coloured berets -but nothing on your collection! It's one of the reasons I love your blog, because I love berets. I also absolutely love the teal coloured one! It's pretty much my favourite colour. :)

I really, really have to get myself a beret, especially considering I'm a HUUUGE Francophile! I'm always wearing something on my head, too, be it a cute headband, beanie, straw fedora, or felt hat. I've become known at my school for my hats, scarves (I own a trillion!), and my red lipstick. I'm perfectly okay with all these things. Honestly, I was totally a Parisian girl in another life.

And I must add, you look SMASHING in your berets!

I seriously love your berets. I used to steer away from these flat berets because I thought they wouldn't sit well on my head, but you actually inspired to me to buy one, and now I'm in love!

I don't think I'll ever be able to pull them off as well as you do, (it's your thing, girl) but can't say I'm not hooked!

I never realize how many berets you had! This is AWESOME. I've never worn a beret, but maybe now I should.

Soo many colours. It's super cool to actually see how many you have.

I want a beret or two-maybe. I own one stylish hat-newsboy/conductor/military and I have worn it once because it is itchy.

I want your dress!!!! I love ruffles.

You will know of course that I agree with you fully on this! I bought my first beret aged 8 from Laura Ashley, a lovely British women's shop. I went there with my mum saying I really wanted a beret and I found one there- it was a sort of mid-blue! I bought it with my pocket-money and wore it all the time! I wish I still had it!

Oh, I linked to you in my post but as I didn't hear from you I didn't use a picture.

This is too cute Lauren! I was referred to as Hat Girl when I was in college too...hehe. Some things never change. I adore your collection of berets and am always on the lookout at the Thrift or antique mall for old berets - your collection puts mine to shame...hehe. They always look so gorgeous on you to say the least!
